Hong Kong to Hainan Race
- September 10, 2014
The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club starts its well established Hong Kong to Hainan Race on the 16th of October. This biennial Offshore Category One race is a classic 360nm downwind passage to Sanya, on the island of Hainan in southern China.
The Audi Hong Kong to Hainan Race 2014 is organised and conducted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC) with co-operation of the Chinese Yachting Association (CYA) with the finish hosted by Serenity Marina in Sanya, Hainan.
The current race record for this 350 nautical mile race is 28h 43m 54s and was set in the 2012 edition of the race by Sam Chan’s FreeFire. Sanya is a great finish location for boats intending to continue on to other sailing events around the Asia-Pacific region.
Boats competing in the Audi Hong Kong to Hainan Race will be eligible for the overall Audi China Coast Race Week 2014 prizes within their division.
All boats will be provided with a working Yellowbrick tracking unit which will transmit at 30 minute intervals through out the entirety of the race. Each transmission will have several packets of data including speed, direction and GPS co ordinates. This means family, friends and supporters left on shore will be able to follow the progress of the fleet on our race player.
