Islands Race 2016
- February 10, 2016
Similar to last year, the Islands Race will be SDYC’s first (US based) offshore regatta. The Islands Race competitors will start in Long Beach Harbor and sail around Santa Catalina and San Clemente Islands prior to completing the race in Point Loma, San Diego. This event is consistently well-attended by over 30 boats ranging from 25-100 feet in length.
The 2016 Islands Race marks the 7th year of this popular 134 nautical miles event developed in partnership between the San Diego Yacht Club and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. The successful long-term co-hosting of this race has proven to be a strong example of yacht clubs working together to promote, advance and improve the sport of yacht racing.
Newport Harbor Yacht Club will host a welcome reception prior to the race, and San Diego Yacht Club will host the awards ceremony Saturday afternoon on the main deck.
Each yacht participating will have a tracker installed which will transmit data via the Iridium satellite network at predetermined intervals so racing fans, family and friends of the competitors can follow the racing action with our online race map.
