14th Round Britain and Ireland Race

  • June 11, 2018

Established in 1966 by the Royal Western Yacht Club, Round Britain and Ireland Race is a short-handed quadrennial race, open to all yachts and multihulls between 30ft and 50ft in length.

The coastal route demands advanced seamanship skills from its skippers. Starting off from Plymouth, UK, the boats follow a clockwise 1737Nm course around all of Great Britain and Ireland (except for the Channel Islands and Rockall). The race includes four 48 hour stopovers at Kinsale, Barra, Lerwick and Lowestoft during which both bodies and boats are repaired, and new friendships forged.

In the past, Round Britain and Ireland has attracted great names like include Sir Robin Knox-Johnson, Chay Blyth, Rob James, Tony Bullimore and Steve Fossett. The race also has a history of crew-families that share the same adventurous bloodline and love for sailing.
