5th Annual Californian Islands Race

  • March 06, 2014

Newport Harbor Yacht Club and San Diego Yacht Club are the organising authority for the 2014 Islands Race.

If you are looking for an overnight offshore race that takes you around the beautiful Channel Islands Catalina and San Clemente but also tests various skill sets of sailing then this is the race for you. This competition is not for the faint hearted as the open sea winds in March are extremely difficult to navigate through or against.

The course starts in the breakwater east of Queens Gate, where the fleet will then head 139 nautical miles around the Islands of Catalina and San Clemente before finishing just off San Diego's Point Loma.

The contest starts on the 7th March, and you will be able to follow all the twists and turns that this race has to offer via the race tracker.

Each participating boat will have a YB tracker installed onboard. These will transmit the vessels GPS co-ordinates, speed and direction along with several other items of information and will update this every fifteen minutes. This means you can cheer on the fleet or an individual boat in almost real time.

For more information and our race tracker please visit the Islands Race website.
