TasPorts - Maria Island Race 2016
- November 02, 2016
We are very excited to be tracking the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania's Maria Island Race for the first time. This 180-nautical mile race is often used as a qualifying event by boats intending to participate in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The return leg from Maria Island, off Tasmania’s East Coast, replicates the final 85 miles of the ocean classic, including the often formidable Storm Bay and the vagaries of the River Derwent.
Every participating yacht will have a YB tracker installed before the start. It will "wake up" periodically to collect several packets of data and send it to our servers at YB HQ UK within seconds of transmission. From there the data is visualised on to a race player for officials, friends, supporters and family left ashore to follow the action as it happens.
